Repairs

The symptoms of wear and tear are a fact of life. Choosing the right moment to act for the long term good of the subject is a matter of sooner rather than later. 'A stitch in time...' and all that! This is as true for pianos as it is for humans. With pianos, the symptoms are: misfiring notes, sluggish and heavy key strokes, squeaks and clicks in the action, etc. - the list is endless. This is a classic case of required surgery!

Surgery, for pianos, involves replacing worn felts, broken springs, loops, tapes and washers. All the moving parts within the action need to be checked for the correct freedom of movement.

As every part is handled and dealt with individually, it will be no surprise to learn that repair work is hugely time consuming. The number of parts that constitute the complete action is staggering. Patience is not optional for the technician. Every stage of the work demands consistency and care.

After the reassembly, regulation and fine tuning, you have a piano that's ready to live again the days of its youth. Alas, these benefits are not currently extended to pianists and technicians! Not even to pianologists!
